Getting Started / Administrator Basics
Introduction
The Administrator is accessed using a secure link in a web browser. This is typically accessed from a link in the System Dashboard in the Operations group. Links to Administrator on each node may be provided. Alternatively, the Administrator pages can be bookmarked in the web browser.
System Design
A system may consist of one or more NovaStar servers (nodes), depending on the size of the system.
The nodes may include:
- primary data collection node
- secondary (backup) data collection node, which take over if the primary node fails or is unavailable on the network
- data node that contains a replicated copy of the data collection node’s data and is optimized for public data access two about how
It is recommended that data should only be edited on the primary node because data edits are replicated to other nodes.
Tables which are NOT replicated between nodes are the Configuration List and the Scheduler. This allows each node to be configured uniquely according to its role and required tasks.
Users
In order to log into Administrator, a user must have a login name and password. Only someone with Administrator privileges can create a NovaStar account and assign a new password. For more information about user roles, see the Users documentation.
User Groups
Systems may utilize groups to better manage which resources are visible to particular groups of users. If an object (station, point, etc.) has a particular group assigned but a user does not belong to that group, that object will not be visible to that user. The exception is that a user who is categorized as an Administrator has access to everything. See the Groups documentation for more information about groups.
